The Baltimore Ravens have been on an hectic schedule the past few days, but today they will get back to business as they begin their final preparations for Super Bowl XLVII against the San Francisco 49'ers.
This past Sunday, Monday and Tuesday have been extremely busy for the Ravens, which is not out of the ordinary, but what is unusual is that it hardly had anything to do with actual football. Sunday, the players did have some meetings and workouts, but mostly spent the day packing, getting final travel arrangements taken care of for family and friends and prepared to leave for New Orleans.
Monday, exactly 12 years to the day after the team's only Super Bowl appearance and victory in Super Bowl XXXV, Baltimore sent this team off in style with a sendoff rally at the Inner Harbor in downtown Baltimore. Charm City showed how much they support and love this team as thousands and thousands of fans showed up to cheer on their AFC Champions on a cold and lightly drizzling day. The atmosphere at the Inner Harbor was electric and the noise and cheers never seemed to stop as several coaches and players were present and spoke, including the soon-to-be retiring Ray Lewis. The future Hall of Famer spoke to the crowd and sent the crowd into a loud raucus as he stated,
"We did this in 2000 and we're not going to New Orleans for nothing else but to bring back another ring back to Baltimore where it belongs!"
After the sendoff rally, the Ravens boarded a plane and headed to New Orleans, where they cockpit window sported a purple flag when it landed to let the world know that Baltimore had arrived. Yesterday was media day at the Super Bowl, and the drones of media and fans filled the Super Dome as each team served up interviews for an hour will all players available. Of course, the main storyline was Lewis and the ridiculous story that came out regarding deer antler spray, but all players were asked a barrage of questions which included everything from actual football questions to "How does it feel to be tall", yes I heard this question asked to TE Dennis Pitta. The Ravens also posed for their Super Bowl team picture on the field yesterday and the entire team seemed to be having fun and relaxed.
Finally today, Baltimore and San Francisco will get back to business as both teams will start their final week of practices leading up to Super Bowl XLVII. The 49'ers will be using the New Orleans Saints practice facility, while the Ravens will be at Tulane University's baseball facility that is retro fitted for football. There is no doubt that John Harbaugh and the coaching staff have already implemented their game plan with the players last week, but will likely make slight adjustments this week. The main focus for the Ravens players and coaches will be to make sure that everyone is on the same page and all "I's" are dotted and "T's" crossed. Baltimore will practice today through Friday with walk throughs and meetings on Saturday before the time will finally come for the big game on Sunday.
